Ivacy VPN Review 2025: Features, Competitors, Average Speed Tests

December 2024 Update
As of now you can choose between USA and Russia dedicated IPs for an extra $1.49/month. In future the company is planning to expand the dedicated server pool for Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Australia.

VPN services designed for regular users do not usually offer server recommendations based on user requirements, with Ivacy VPN being an exception. Ivacy, which has been around for more than a decade now, stands out from the rest by just doing that. The VPN service would recommend you different servers for different purposes, such as one server for downloading and another one for streaming content and so on. Itโ€™s a rare feature which makes Ivacy one of the most sought-after VPN services at this moment. Also, they have recently stepped up their game to get the competitive edge. Thereโ€™s actually much more to it than just purpose-based server recommendations. Letโ€™s take a look at the features of the leading VPN service.

A Detailed Features Overview

Ivacy VPN Review

When I first launched the Ivacy application on my Windows desktop, I was taken aback by its incredibly clean interface. Easy to navigate, the Ivacy VPN service does not come with too many tweaking options. You can either auto-launch the application when Windows starts, or you can decide when to open it. As a bare minimum, the VPN service offers full IPv6 leak protection, along with an internet kill switch, which is considered a staple by most VPN users. However, the best part of the VPN service is probably the split tunnelling, a revolutionary technology unveiled in 2010 which enable users to decide what traffic they want to reveal to their ISP.

While Ivacy now has more than 3455 servers across 100 countries, the servers are highly optimized to ensure a good value for money. With P2P optimized servers nestled in the USA, torrenting becomes a cakewalk. You can connect to their VPN service using all the standard protocols, including PPTP, OpenVPN, SSTP, IKEv2, and L2TP. Good speed at a giveaway price makes it a service worth trying out, although you wonโ€™t likely be excited about the speed in case you are a seasoned user. On the top of it, Ivacyโ€™s zero-logging policy is what it reads, literally. In fact, if you read the fine prints of their log policy, you would be surprised to know that they offer unadulterated privacy, pure and with no hidden terms.

The service is based in Singapore, a country which has certain censorship issues, the nifty VPN comes with some really advanced features, and the sign-up process is quite straightforward. Itโ€™s particularly easy to use, with plenty of servers to choose from, and the dedicated Windows client is certainly a big plus. It also offers a DNS add-on, which allows you to route your connection requests through their dedicated DNS servers, so as to avoid any sort of DNS leaks. With five simultaneous logins and no data cap, the VPN service can ensure your complete internet freedom, while also keeping you covered with its military-grade encryption.

Ivacy Logging Policy

Excerpt from the Ivacy Privacy Policy

โ€œWe strictly do not log or monitor, online browsing activities, connection logs, VPN IPs assigned, original IP addresses, browsing history, outgoing traffic, connection times, data you have accessed and/or DNS queries generated by your end. We have no information that could associate specific activities to specific users.

Ivacy assures its users of collecting minimal data. Data collected is to keep Ivacy running smoothly and to make our services better. We do not keep any personal and sensitive user information. By design, Ivacy VPN has no sensitive data to share, even when legally bound to do so.

Note: Ivacy needs certain data to assist users in need of a dedicated IP. The information required is not sensitive, but it is required to be kept on file for troubleshooting, if a problem arises.โ€

Most VPN service providers these days make tall promises when it comes to logging user data, with Ivacy being an exception. Ivacy actually lives up to the commitments it makes to its users. If you go through their privacy policy (I have put an excerpt above), you will get to know that the VPN service actually upholds theor โ€˜zero-logโ€™ policy. The only data they stores contains your name, the email address you use during sign-up and your payment method. Thatโ€™s it. These bits of information are required for account creation and to keep you in the loop about latest updates.

2

Is It Compatible With TOR Browser?

Precisely, yes. In order to join the TOR network of network servers, you need to get a TOR browser. While in terms of anonymity, TOR works just a like a VPN, the similarity ends there only. Itโ€™s all about anonymous browsing, and nothing more, while a VPN serves a few more purposes than just maintaining your anonymity online. If you use Ivacy with TOR, you can easily combat all those anti-privacy laws and surveillance efforts. Just like Ivacy, TOR is also available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. After downloading the respective TOR, you can start using Ivacy with it.

3

Is Torrenting Allowed?

Ivacy VPN Torrenting

Ivacy claims on their website that their service is the best on the market for P2P file sharing and torrenting, which a support executive confirmed during a live chat session. It allows users to torrent privately and anonymously, watch movies and TV shows and stream sports matches live without a hitch. You can also unblock torrent trackers easily using the VPN service. To add to it, overcoming port blocking throttling also becomes particularly easy when you have the Ivacy VPN installed on your desktop. However, connection seem terribly slow on some servers and gets disconnected every now and then, so thatโ€™s a big negative. However, itโ€™s still one of those VPNs that have taken the grit to offer unrestricted torrenting and file sharing. For best results, I would recommend you to use their Canada and US servers that are fully optimized.

4

Can You Access Netflix?

As you probably have realized already, Netflix crackdown on VPN services is quite a headache for some users. When I tried accessing Netflix from US, Canada, UK and Netherlands servers respectively, none of the servers could get me through it. Netflix is not likely to reverse their ban on VPNs, and Ivacy has mentioned it on their website that users might face issues while trying to access Netflix using any of their servers. I got in touch with one of the support staff who informed me that it works perfectly with Netflix, while also adding that I might not be able to access Netflix from China. I took a second attempt after taking to the support executive and voila! I was able to stream โ€˜The Good Placeโ€™ without any buffering. Even if you face issues while trying to access Netflix, keep trying or get in touch with their live chat support team. It should work.

Even top rated VPN services such as ExpressVPN, confirms that they may face Netflix issues, luckily there are some solutions and workarounds.
5

Does It Work In China?

Only a handful of VPNs work in China, and some that actually work in China are annoyingly slow. Ivacy, on the other hand, claims to be the โ€œmost secure VPNโ€ to bypass the Great Firewall of China. However, I found their China servers a bit unstable (which one of their support execs confirmed later) and switched to their Hong Kong server which actually worked great. Itโ€™s a mainland VPN (Singapore-based), so I hope they would soon work on this ground to make their China servers work better.

Search Trends and Competitors

Ivacy search trends 2023

To delve into the recent search trends for the VPN service, I turned to the Big G as itโ€™s probably the most reliable source at this moment to analyze search trends and traffic data. I searched with the keyword “Ivacy VPN” to get an idea of how many people are searching for this specific term wordlwide for the last 5 years. Over the past five years, the VPN service has slightly increased the popularity if we analyze the latest traffic. The keyword reached peak popularity during the autumn 2021 and the current trend at the beginning of 2024 is upward.

I also checked the USA traffic and found out that people from Washington, Florida, New York, California and Texas search for the keyword “Ivacy VPN” the most. “Buy Ivacy” keyword returned with no data, which means not too many people were looking to buy this specific software product. Perhaps most users wanted to just check out what it is and how it performs. “Ivacy VPN review”, however, has been the most popular keyword among the three over the last five years.

Ivacy VPN vs StrongVPN vs FastestVPN search trend comparison 2023

I have found two more competitors in the same search range as IvacyVPN, they are StrongVPN and FastestVPN. As we can see StrongVPN has started to lose search activity in autumn 2018 and this is the exact time when Ivacy managed to gain more search queries in comparison to StrongVPN. As for the FastestVPN in was neck to neck with IvacyVPN from around spring 2019 till spring 2021. Starting from summer 2021 and till now (January 2024) Ivacy maintain the leading positions over FastestVPN and keep the tendency to grow.

What about social media?

Can You Hide Your Identity Using Social Media Sites?

You should be able to access a variety of websites using Ivacy, even if you are in Venezuela, a country known for its stringent content filtering policy. If you are a college student and you donโ€™t want to get caught while trying to access any of those popular social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter, you can get past the restrictions easily using the Ivacy VPN.

Speed tests

Average Speed Tests

For a better understanding of the speed it offers, I tested out the VPN service using Speedtest.net. However, I recommend you to take the test results with a pinch of salt as the speed testing website uses a wide array of variables to test the upload and download speeds. On the whole, Ivacy is a moderately fast VPN service. Their Asia servers are below par, but the EU server (53.0 Mbps download speed) performed spectacularly well. In fact, the speed I got on their US servers is at par with that of NordVPN, which is often referred as one of the fastest services on the market. Ivacy lets you access and stream content from top streaming websites, and the speed was more than enough to stream content with zero buffering, which is in itself a great feet. The VPN service offers its users servers with speed up to 1GB. If you want to increase the speed, you can also change the protocol, turn your firewall off or choose your closest server, among other hacks.

Installation

Installation And Ease Of Use

Ivacy offers dedicated apps for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android users. You can find user-friendly installation guides on their websiteโ€™s support section. Additionally, you can also find detailed information on how to install the VPN on your system even if your device lacks the native app. For example, if you are trying to install the VPN in any of Linux, Kodi, Roku, Xbox, and PS4, you can find a detailed installation guide on their website. You can also protect the connected devices without installing the application individually and can install at the router level if you want. Either manually reconfigure your existing router or buy a new pre-flashed router. Extensions for Chrome and Firefox are also available. Overall, the installation process is a breeze.

Ivacy VPN features

The Ivacy desktop application is designed in a tricky way. It perfectly does its jobs when you are familiar with all of its tweaks. The main screen has just got the basics, and you can straightway get down to business by just clicking on the โ€˜Smart Connectโ€™ button. I actually expected little more information on the home screen such as the chosen protocol or the IP address, but thatโ€™s it. Pretty much everything has been kept under the fold. The contextual help coming alongside the Kill Switch is an excellent feature. However, the VPN failed a number of times when I tried connecting to specific servers, and a bunch of them, and that was bit of a turn-off for me.

Customer support

How Good Enough Is Their Customer Service?

I tried to test out how their customer support actually works and contacted one of their live chat support execs (Tevez was assigned to me) and he guided me through the installation process very well. He also provided me a few pithy tips on how to access Netflix from China and how to pair the VPN up with TOR. Itโ€™s great that they have a live chat feature, and thereโ€™s also a technical page where you can get all the technical guides, FAQ etc. you can also open up a support ticket or shoot an email to support@ivacy.com

I contacted their live chat support team regarding the TOR compatibility and one of their support execs (Tevez) told me this:

“Hello. Thank you for contacting Ivacy Support. Although there are a few reported case regarding the compatibility of Ivacy with Tor, and most of the users are able to use it, but we do not recommend using Ivacy with Tor Browser.”

This may seem a bit confusing as on the official website of Ivacy, there’s a dedicated page for TOR and VPN and it clearly indicates that the service is compatible with TOR. This is what’s written on their website:

“Ivacy VPN is by far the best Tor VPN out there in case you are wondering. It will help in your endeavors regardless of where you are located, that too without a need for you to acquire technical expertise to use it effectively.”

Conclusion

Final Words or Is It Good Enough?

Ivacy is a really low-cost VPN which is recommended for users who are solely concerned about privacy, and do not prioritize performance. The two-year plan is ridiculously cheap and you can connect up to five devices with the application installed on a single system. Speed is good as long as you are just streaming and browsing using local connections, but if you are trying to access Netflix, I would suggest you to use CyberGhost VPN instead. Among the handful of VPNs that actually works with Netflix, CyberGhost is one of the best solution. However, strong encryption has been used by the developers and this is particularly great. Go for Ivacy if you want watertight privacy at a giveaway cost.

I used Ivacy before, it’s not half bad but there are better out there. It comes down to what you want to spend.

I came to China to learn Chinese so I needed a cheap solution as I wanted to channel my money elsewhere. No major problems but having seen, and used others, it confirms this one does the job, but not much more

+ PROS: Support was always very good
    - CONS: Just not a patch on some of the best ones like Express and Nord
